Course description

Goals: to understand the essential principles of the object-oriented approach to information systems and software development; to be able to apply the UML language and use cases in small- scale analysis and design projects; to understand the contents of, and a way of using, special principles and constructs included in the approach; to be able to employ some computer-aided tool to yield UML diagrams.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites to the course. Programming 1 and Basics in information management and information systems development or similar knowledge is recommended, but not required. The course can be taken concurrently with Fundamentals of Databases and Data Management.

Completion

Exam and course project (assigment) according to given time table. Alternatively, a collection of essays and other additional tasks can be substituted for exam (the course project must be completed even if the course is done with essays).

8 sessions, total 16h. You can work the course project in exercise groups and ask the teacher or other students for advice.

The first session (24.3.2010) focuses on UML software tutorials and technical details of returning the excercises and essays.
