Scanning pictures

This is a short instrucion for scanning pictures with the scanner in the computer lab.

  1. Log in to the scanner computer by using local username (User name: skannaaja , Password: TvTv001 and Log on to: EVO) and check the scanner is on.
  2. Put the pictures on the scanner glass and close. If you are scanning a book or another large object and can't properly close the scanner try to block the light with paper or something else. The quality of the picture is affected negatively by any extra light in the scanner.
  3. Start the ScanWise program. After starting the program the scanner will automatically preview the picture.
  4. Crop the picture by the cropping tool.
  5. Select Original Type to tell what kind of an image you are scanning
  6. In Destination you should have File selected
  7. Image Control is for selecting a more spesific scanning mode: color, grayscale or lineart. You can also adjust the brightness, contrast and saturation.
  8. By selecting Dimensions you can adjust the resolution. If you want to use a small detail of the picture set 300 dpi for the resolution. The button above Units turns the image.
  9. After checking the settings you can scan. Press Scan.
  10. The program asks the name of the image and where to save it. Save as type TIFF to the folder C:\temp.
  11. Use SFTP to transfer the scanned images to your home directory at the Unix computer. Then you can start editing the images by another computer. When you are done, delete the images in your Unix home directory as they use a lot of space.
